'The Look' -work-in-progress'
'This piece is created using dozens (and dozens) of individually cut pieces to create the feather layers. I used 3 fabrics to cut these from - one being a gray tone pinecone print that when cut in narrow strips looked like feathers. The beak is made from leather - I wanted the suble reflective, smooth appearance that leather provided.
I decided to use orange for the eyes just to add some color splash for the contrast with the mostly neutral and dark tones of the other features.
I made the owl and the background separately - then placed the owl over the background. I don't normally do this but the owl was so complicated with all the pieces is was easier to manage.
Finished piece is 24" x 36"
